We went to Deadhorse state park October 6th........didn't know the Smoke-Out was goin on but we stayed anyway.......Its a motorcycle event and it was noisey........whew......anyway we stayed for a week and tried to fish on the Verde River till we found out that the best time was in January when the water is clear, sure was muddy in October.....It cost $12 a night and it was cool at night and hot during the day, well hot for me. The girls said it was fine sooooo.. I've got a Valkryie with a Voyager Kit on it and pull a large Time-Out tent trailer...thats our RV.. my other ride is a VTX 1300R. Nice riden up there if your not in a hurry, lots of old folks and ya know how they drive...Now I'm 60 but I can't even drive that slow..........The campground is mostly desert but it does have some trees for shade and it does have cabins if ya don't tent or RV....its was real nice....In April we're goin to Roper State Park out of Safford and we'll see how the fishin is there.......

Welcome to the site, Shadow!
Good campground write-up!
We were at Roper last Easter. Boy, was it hot and crowded!
The water at the time was murky, but folks were catching something.
A much nicer campground and lake is Lyman Lake. Higher elevation and much nicer scenery. We enjoyed the area.
We heard that Patagonia Lake was very nice from a fellow camper, but didn't make it there.

Lots of lakes and National Forest campgrounds at higher altitude. Clear water, cool temps even in summer.

Thanks for the review. I will be stopping there May 21st. I'm riding from So Cal through Arizona into New Mexico, Colorado then back through Utah to California.

I'd have gone over to the SmokeOut to look at the Horse members bikes! Their one rule is that they all have to be homebuilds.

Stayed here Saturday May 21st, 2011. This is a marvelous campground. The camp host in our loop had even swept out the ashes from the fire ring and brought around firewood for a small cost of $5. The upper loops have a wonderful view of Cottonwood. We were extremely pleased with Dead Horse..
