Hi,
This is my first post to this forum. I thought that I would share my last trip thru Utah that I did last last week.

Some of you may know me from the ST-Owners forum. I ride my ST daily and use my DR for week end rides.

Last week we did just under 1700 miles in 7 days thru Southern Utah. I am from So Ca and I rode tha DR for the entire trip. Some of the others trucked their bikes to St George and then joined the ride.

Welcome Tom,

Gotta love the DRs, and yes, the best ones are blue.

Great pics, I'm thinking of heading out to California next summer. May stop by your shop.

Guy,

My ST 1300 is blue also. That is one reason that I got the DR over the KLR is the color avalible.

Last year I did a week in Alaska on a KLR rental. The DR just feels lighter and simpler.

You can stop by my shop at any time. We usually have something interesting going on.

Thanks Tom

Thanks Joe,

The miles varied, first and last day 350 each. The others 145 min to 240 max.

The trip was about 70% off road except for the to and from St George.(hwy 15).

Big article in the latest MCN about the DR. Sounds like it need some fairly serious work to make it LD worthy(?).

Tom, I've done many of those same roads on the ST (Burr Trail three time, Escalante Grand Staircase once.) The DR is a better choice. :D

George,

I have spent a lot of time building the DR into an OK LD bike (for multi surface travel). I think the seat is the biggest problem to covering many miles. I use the stock seat but it has been modified by Spenser at Greatdaytoride. I have also added ATV bars (same bend as stock but 2" taller) and rear peg mount extenders (allows different foot rest). I have also added a NEP cruise control.

You would not be able to do many miles without some type of windscreen. I have worked with Paige at Areoflow to develop the screen I use. It is small but provides good protection.

I have done 350 miles in 1 day, I could have kept going. The DR will cruise at 65-70 MPH all day long.

Thanks to everyone else for the warm greeting to the forum. I look forward to doing alot more with you guys.

Welcome Tom. I've been to Tom's shop in Orange at a Tech day for the STers and he's quite modest when he says "we have something interesting going on." Great pictures and report. I will be wintering over out there, so if you have another tech day I'll probably attend.

I've done a couple 600 mile days, but that was with windshield and Corbin seat and not day after day. Not a ST, but not bad either.
