After a few short road trips and one in the rain I have come to the realization that my bike needs a wind screen.
This was my criteria.
1. tall enough to keep the wind off my chest.
2. easy to remove and store, even during a trip.
3. keep the rain off of my gps and other doodads.
4. not feel like it was going to chop off my head if I went over the bars.
5. make my bike look randy baby.
I looked at all on the market wether for a drz or universal. I tried to adapt others to fit but could never find anything I liked. I even went to couple of mc bone yards with my numberplate and tried to find something I could cut down. I scoured the internet looking at pic after pic and finally decided to make it.
Here is my template. I am wanting some input from you guys. Sometimes I look at it and I like it. then I look again and its too tall or leans back too far or whatever. I am going to make a clear one and a smoke one.
I figured out how to mount it without messing with my numberplate bag. Anyway please chime in and let me know what you think, I want to cut plastic and start forming this weekend.
BTW check out my light guard. Auto headlight cover from Checker and some insulated brake line clips and Badabing!
Thanks everyone.

This will be interesting, because after years of having a windshield, I just took mine off and decided I didn't need it. It will be nice to see what you come up with.

Sorry about that! Here are the pics. Please let me know your thoughts. I will be cutting plastic and having my friend who makes plastic tanks and aircraft windscreens help me with the forming.
Thanks Again!

That looks like it ought to work. Some use a Touratech spoiler for the GS to reduce turbulence from the top edge and you might consider that some people get some air coming under the shield and over the tank that causes a vacuum effect that pulls you toward the shield. Found this pic of someone else's attempt to correct this.

Great link. I haven't seen that one. The problem with that guy is that he thinks too much. I don't need full protection, I just want to improve my long rides and have somewhere to hide in the rain.
I will be able to take off two thumb screws and you won't even know that thing was there.
I did incorporate some side protection (cant do much more due to my radiator shrouds otherwise I wouldn't be able to turn) and I did think about an adjustable spoiler if I get some buffeting. I'll probably just make it though.
You don't think its too tall?

Well, it's taller than I would want, but it's not my bike. Besides if you build it to tall you can cut some off. Not so easy if you build it to short.
I've found that with a shield I ride faster than without, that part of the safety factor shouldn't be ignored, in my case at least.

Looks great to me, as long as you can look over it and not through it, you should be fine. If you have to look through it when it's raining you'll be kicking yourself. Ask me how I know? :p Be sure and post up pics of the finished product!

My shield started out life as a C Bailey shield.
http://www.ceebaileys.com/suzuki/dr650z400ws.html
But it was just to big, I felt like I was going down the road with a Winibago windshield strapped to the front of my bike. So I got out the saw and took the "wings" off the sides and 2" off the top. You can see in this pic it's a lot smaller.

But with this I have no way to use my number plate bag.
By the way, what is the long tube above your bag in front of the windshield?

The pics on this site of your bike was part of my inspiration to build a shield. I looked at the Cee Bailey but never thought of cutting it down. Duh.
The tube holds my fishing pole! I covered it with carbon fiber numberplate backround and added my special sticker. it straps using the extra straps on my plate bag.

If your looking at my pics you can see my bike has survived many different configurations. I've had it 5 years and I've almost got it the way I want it.
Maybe.. :p

Although it didn't seem so bad comeing back home.:p

Hi Flingshot,
My shields back on and thought I'd show you the brackets I made to stiffen up the shield. A lot of people don't like the way the Cee Bailey wobbles with it bolted to the numberplate so I took some aluminum strap scraps I had in the shop (3/4 wide x 1/8 thick) and bent and twisted them to fit. Bolted to the top windshield bolts at one end and to the inner bark buster mount on the other.

That's a great idea Guy.
I was wondering if mine was going to need extra support. I won't know for a few more days but if it does, I might steal your idea. I did chop off an inch from my original design. It looks a lot better.
More pics soon.

I am hoping that they come out with a 2X4 stretcher soon. I am going to need it when I finish my basement this winter.

You know? I have always lusted after the Sky Hook from Abercrombie and Fitch, I could use the help picking up the bike when I fall down.

Still working on it. My plastic guy went hunting.
On the third one because i'm picky.
It would be a piece of cake if I didn't want to run my number plate bag as well.

This is a front rack that I have designed. It works with or without the plastic.
