View Full Version : Another FNG
I just stumbled onto this place a couple of days ago and thought I should introduce myself. I live in Ohio and we try to get out to bike camp as often as we can. Work seems to intrude more than I would like. We seem to do it a little different than some here, it seems. Just take a couple of old sport bikes and have at it.
Hopefully, I can steal some info/hints from you folks and maybe share some, too.

Welcome John sorry I did not say Hi sooner but I was out camping in Big Bend TX.
Different is a good thing around here. That?s how we learn new and better things.
Is it still a little cold in Ohio for camping?
Rick
Yeah, it is still a bit chilly. Heat wave today, supposed to get up to 37 degrees! My wife is already making noises about taking a long weekend soon to do a bike/camping trip. Of course she is also complaining about still having to drive her car to work instead of riding. I've got most of the winter maintenance on the bikes done so we should be ready to go when the weather/schedules fall in line.
Must be nice to be able to ride all year long.

Yeah, riding most of the year would be nice. I suspect some of us northerners might not tolerate the summer heat in Texas as well though! But I will admit I am sick of winter and am willing to acclimate.

Welcome to the site John! I'm planning on going to a Superbike race in Lexington in August. My wife is from Findlay. I hope to meet you sometime.
Hi nyener. We tend to hit the superbike and the vintage races the weekend before at Mid-Ohio. And yes, we have been known to camp either at the track or at nearby campgrounds. The campgrounds closest to the track are a circus but with a 15-20 minute ride it is not nearly as bad. Get hold of us when this is coming up and maybe we can meet. Note: check the dates-both races got moved back a week this year.
We are pretty easy to spot. I will be on a 84 Honda VF1000F Interceptor and my wife is on a 1986 VFR750 Interceptor. Pair of old dinosaurs! Just like us.
We are in Wapakoneta about an hour south of Findlay.

JCS,
I was planning to camp at the track because I have no idea of a better place. I've never been there. It was rather inexpensive compared to the cost of camping at Road America in Wisconsin ($30 vs $70 for the weekend), but the cost isn't major with me. I just want to have the best experience possible. If you have better ideas for campgrounds in that area, please let me know. I understand that the doubleheader superbike race is August 4 - 6. Is that wrong?
On a side note: If I was going to take more vacation on this trip I'd go to roller coaster heaven, Cedar Point in Sandusky. My favorite place in Ohio!

Welcome to the site!
I have a friend who rides the vintage circuit. I might run into you at mid Ohio.
nyener-if you are taking your family to the superbike races you might want to re-think about campimg at the track with kids. I have seen it get "interesting" around the campground late Saturday night. "BOOBIES!!!" Or it might make for interesting conversation later.
I can point you at another campground (ex-KOA) about 15-20 minutes away. Both sites have advantages. Did I mention BOOBIES?
mongo- plan to spend a day in the swap meet area. It will take you all day just to go through it.

John,
I like BOOBIES. :D My wife won't be along. Camping's not for her. She's a Hilton kind of girl. I have 2 daughters, one married and one in college. None of my Harley riding coworkers are much interested in Superbike racing. I will be alone. Soooo sad! :(
I don't want to stay up all night, but I do like entertainment.
