I can't remember what post we were talking about deer and other animals on our property, but I ran across this picture while dumping my digital camera. I snapped it while looking out my front door into the driveway.

As long as they stay off the road, I'm okay with them.:D

We have a few of those critters around our place too. They only come up to the house at night though.

Yeah, we have them too. Also Elk, but the ones we watch out for are the moving walls,(Steers). You hit one of them broadside and its like hitting a brick wall. Be careful out there.

There seems to be more deer these days and for motorcycle riders that is not a good thing. I guess what we need is a few more hunters.

A couple of members of my CMA chapter hit one of those"moving walls" a couple of months ago, but they are both recovering now, had some broken bones though. Another one got taken down by bambi last fall, he's a lot better now, butI don't think his wife is too keen on him riding again now.

Well, les1234
Thank the gods they recovered. Not even a car driver walks away unhurt hitting one of them "moving walls". I seen too many motorists, (car and bikes), fall victim to them:( I'm glad your friends are okay:)

Hello, all..... this is my first post here, and since my wife and I smacked a deer last June 29 with our lovely old Honda Goldwing 1500 on Hwy 28, in the UP, Michigan, I thought this would be a great thread in which to break myself in, no pun intended......

Four broken ribs for me, a punctured lung, and a concussion.... and for my indefatigable wife, Red, the veteran of 270,000 touring miles, a badly fractured lower left forearm. My lovely Wing was totalled. I no longer think deer are cute; in fact, I often long to pick my teeth with the bones of Bambi's mother!

We are healing, however, and we have a new Honda ST1300 (avatar bike) and a KLR 650.... hope to be on this forum for a long, long time. We have camped off the bike since 1989, and know a lot about camping in the Pacific Northwest. Give me a pm if I can help......

Welcome to the site Jack, hope you two continue to heal quickly. I love riding the PNW, such a serene area to ride.

Maybe a nice venison steak cooked over a campfire? :p

I love Bambi, goes good with potato salad. ;)

Welcome to the site Cousin Jack! I have to agree, cute no, tasty yes. I enjoyed eating the back strap of one of those does or a relative of it this spring.:p I had a good friend hit one about 5 miles from my house this summer. He was lucky, he hit it square in the ribcage between it's front and rear legs and he didn't go down. He was bruised from his hip to his knee where the deer's head snapped back and hit his leg. He was very lucky considering he was running about 60 mph. The front of his bike was a mess, and had about $4000.00 damage according to the Harley stealership.

Welcome to the site, Jack!
My wife thinks deer should be extinct.
She made me put deer whistles on the bikes under the foot boards.
Probably does no good, but it makes her feel better!

Welcome to the site Jack.

Deer are becoming overpopulated in many places. Lets increase the limit, after all they are quite tasty!!!!

One of my friends says he doesn't wish they were extinct, but endangered woulf be ok with him.

Wow, and he didn't go down?I'd say your friend , in addition to being lucky, really knows how to handle a bike!

les1234, my friend has ridden for probably close to 40 years counting the dirt bikes as a kid. The deer jumped up a bank out of nowhere, I was behind him and he didn't even have time to hit the brakes. We were cruising along and I heard a bang, and then I saw the deer spin off the road on the opposite side. He had such a death grip on the handlebars they rotated down to the sides of his tank. He did wobble a bit trying to pull the bars back up before he got it pulled over in the next driveway he came to. What really made things bad was he had just gotten his bike painted the week before, he was sick.:(
