We just got back from a 250 mile ride wearing these jeans.
Normally, I'm very stringent about wearing the armored overpants with the knee and hip protection over slacks or jeans.
These pants are 15 oz 100% cotton - very heavy - with triple stitch in and outseams and huge leg openings.
But the really cool thing is there is a patch down the front leg from the hip to the shin with an opening to put a knee pad in.
With that double protection; not a bug or rock hit on the shin above the boot or on the knee.
I don't know anything about logging, but I assume they were designed to protect the front of the legs from wood chips or chainsaw "oops".
I just might start breaking my armored overpants rule and wear these now because they sure seem sturdy.
I bought them baggy enough to layer underneath if needed and would probably just wear the rain pants over them if it gets wet out.

Have you had any problems with the rivets scratching the tank?

Hello Vys10fooks

No. We have no problems, because I believe, we have cruisers and our upper inner thighs are high and back from the tanks,(in relation to the two inner rivets). I don't know about where the rivets would be on another cruiser, sport or dual. I guess it depends on where YOU sit on your bike. Sorry about the lack of info. You might want to check to see where your upper inner thighs are in relation to your tank. Again, the inner rivet is high and back from our cruiser tank. Good point though:)

I was looking at a pair of Arborwear Gusseted Canvas pants in the Aerostich catalog the other day. I liked the looks of them, just not the $67.00 price tag. I'll have to hit the Carhartt store and check them out.

Yeah, I suggest you try them on Ziggy.
They were priced at $45.00 here, but this is a small overpriced town and perhaps you can do better where you live.
The riding pants you were looking at probably boast some kind of Kevlar protection also, so you might want to keep that in mind. These have no extra protection in the seat or hips, just the leg fronts.
I (the wife) already have plenty of "protection" in the seat and hips.:o

Got alot of tough clothing- they call it "Fire Hose" Their 5 pocket jeans are 13.4 oz and some guy has a testimony in their catalog having fell off his bike at 45mph in those jeans without injury and not a single hole... got my attention. But I like their clothing line as they do last.

I too will have to check these out as they come in my large arse size so if they are tough as well then maybe good for the cooler weather also

I ride a BMW R1200GS and I'm up on the tank all the time. Funny, I risk scratching it all the time just riding where I ride and don't worry about a stray mesquite branch or dumping it on the trail. Guess I just don't like the idea of scratching it myself with a pair of jeans. Guess I'll stick to my overpriced BMW gear.

Hey, I don't blame you. The idea of scratching your own bike by you just doesn't sit right with me either:( Besides, that 1200GS is a very nice bike. I just looked at one at a BMW Showroom yesterday in Sparks, NV. Very nice:) A little more pricey than the regular dual sport bike....but hey...I drive a BMW 328i. Who am I to say:D
Happy riding
