On Wednesday, August 6th Mike and I headed from Houston to Mustang Island (Corpus Christi). We learned that Harleys don't handle the beach too well. We moved from our original campsite in the sand to join the mosquitos and RV's closer inland.

Headed out towards Eagle Pass south of Del Rio on the Mexican border for lunch (couple hundred miles) and then through Del Rio to visit Judge Roy Bean and ended up in Marathon. About a 600 mile day.

Friday morning rode through an hour of rain as we made our way into Big Bend. We took the river road all the way to Presidio (what a crappy town). We went through Marfa to Frt. Davis and stopped for lunch. Then headed to Balmorhea for a dip in the springs and camped there overnight.

We headed out early Saturday morning toward Ft. Stockton for breakfast at IHOP. I was not thrilled about just riding I-10 home but it turned out to be a very scenic ride. We made it to Fredricksburg for lunch, Austin for a dip in Barton Springs, dinner in Bastrop and back in Houston by 10:00pm Saturday night.

Hi,

Nice trip, don't worry about your Harley not handleing the sand to well, I can't get my dual-sport to handle it to well either. Or maybe it's just me. :)

Thanks for the report and pics.

So how hot was it in BB?

The heat in Big Bend was not too bad unless you stopped in the sun too long. Generally the air was cool while riding. Southern Texas between Corpus and Del Rio was another story. It was like an oven and long straight roads. But I am from Houston so heat is something I am used to dealing with.

By the way, I highly recomend Monkey Butt powder. Have you heard of it? Between the heat and wearing jeans that stuff keeps you comfy.

Wow! What a trip! You guys know how to do it right! I bet it was hot. That west Tx heat is like an oven. Hey, they have the powder at Tractor Supply, apparently farmers get saddle sore too.

Hey J-Lo - go to Wal Mart and buy one of those beaded seats for cars and cut it down to fit your bike. It keeps your rear from sweating, and you never have to worry about using Monkey Butt powder. Since I made my own beaded seat, I've never had butt burn or a wet rear end. It really works!

Scorch - Since we are both from Houston we should meet up and ride sometime. What part of Houston do you live in?
