This place is awesome! It's one of my two favorite campgrounds. Located just a few miles north of the Blue Ridge Parkway on US 276 it's smack in the middle of motorcycle heaven. BRMC is centrally located for day rides to Cherokee N.C., the Cherohala skyway, Maggie Valley (home of Wheels Through Time motorcycle museum), Deals Gap (US129-the dragon), Ashville N.C. and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The campground has plenty grassy spots to pitch a tent or park a pop-up. Choose a spot right on the banks of the Pigeon river to hear the water or listen to the bull frogs beside the trout pond. Either way you can't go wrong. In addition to tent camping there are 20 or so camping cabins for those who want to travel light.
There is a large bathhouse with plenty of hot water to soothe the old bones after a hard days ride. Both the male and female facilities are clean and well maitained. There are also two coin operated washers & dryers for those packing light or on extended stays.
If all this sounds too good to be true there's even a restaurant on site with a covered pavilion housing 10 or 12 picnic tables for your dining pleasure. The food is always great, the servings plentiful and the cost reasonable. The breakfast menu is particuarly good. I love the blue berry pancakes and have been known to order them 3 mornings in a row during extended stays. Gathering with your fellow motorcycle enthusiast, shraring good times and great food has got to be some of the better things in life.
And last, but not least, the reason the place is so great is the hospitality of the owners. Phil & Leslie Johnson bought the place out from the previous owners a few years ago and have done a great job. They've put alot of time, energy, sweat and love in to making the place special and it shows. They're gracious hosts and riders to boot. If you need to know about the local rides they're more than willing to tell you about their favorite loops. Phil might even take you on a good dual sport ride if you can catch him when he's not busy.
If you're in the area to ride the Dragon or are touring the Parkway stop by and pitch a tent at the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Camp. You'll be glad you did. Tell them Rich sent ya'.
