Yea, I know another lantern review. Im starting to think LED lights and lanterns are like computers. You no sooner upgrade to whats the best at the time and then its improved again. Well I was at REI a couple of weeks ago and as usual I was draw like a moth over to the flashlights and lanterns.

I saw this: http://www.rei.com/product/768658

In the store I was simply amazed at how brite it was under the store lighting. I wanted one but the $50 price tag made me put it back on the shelf.

DOH! I was back the following week, I had to have one. I brought back an unused frying pan I bought a few months earlier and used it toward the purchace of the Apollo. Used it camping for the first time last weekend and was absolutly thrilled with it. It puts out un unbelievable amount of light. Runs on 4 AA's and is suppose to be good for 60 hrs. Turn it on, hold down the button and it slowly dims down. When it flickers its telling you its reached full dim. Hold it down again and it gets brite once again and flickers again when it up all the way.

Here's a little clip I found doing a Google for more info posted on Youtube, its in a foreign language. show someone getting a demonstration in a store somewhere.

Unbelievably brite for a single LED lantern. How much better can they get? Its got to stop somewhere. Even has a charging port for a rechargable battery pack offered for another $30.

So..............until someone makes a better one i'll have to live with the Apollo.

Oh man....just bought one myself. I love it. I haven't used it camping yet, but I am very pleased with how bright it is in the dark. It is also small and lightweight enough that its not a problem to carry it. Not only can it stand up, there is also a ring on top to hang it inside the tent too. Very good light.

I try to keep all my camping gear as small as I can when moto camping, I found these a couple of years ago.

The ones I got were in a four pack, sold at Target with an Eddie Bauger logo on them. These have a cutle little key chain hook on them, mine did not. They are great and very small , easy to pack. I actually slip them into my kitchen bag, with a spare set of batteries. I place a couple of them at the edge of my camp site and all the bugs head for them. I use a led headlamp for cooking and all other around camp lighting. enjoy...

I got mine in today. What a great light in a fairly small package. I also bought the rechargeable package for it. I may buy another one...

For storage I slide mine into a beer cozy. Perfect fit. Keeps it from getting dinged up bouncing around in the top case. My cozy was a Harley Davidson product so I simply turned it inside out. Less offensive to the eyes that way.

You all have got to quit posting these things, I only have so much REI refund money to spend this year! :p

I will probably get one of these and some kind of Coffee Press next month when the refunds come out.

Thanks for the review Keith! P^

Based on your review I ordered one from Campsaver - on sale for $35.00 with free shipping if you get your order up to $50.00. I was looking for a Nemo Fillo pillow (which I also got). The light is great - thanks, the pillow I'll try out this weekend and report back. Heading for the Davis Mountains, Tx. (about the only cool spot in the state) P^
