I picked up a new tent about a month ago, and I am finally getting around to putting up the pics.

Here is a shot of the me with the fly on the Mountain Hardware Lightwedge 3.

Here is a shot without the fly on.

Here is another shot of the Top Secret Campground (Well actually it's my backyard :p).

I think I am going to be very pleased with this tent in the future, it seems to be very well made and easy to put up.

Thanks guys.

Rick, no I haven't spend the night in it yet. Where I pitched it was a little muddy so I used my old blue tarp instead of the ground sheet I bought for it. I thought I would wait for a rainy night so I could test it out. :D

Eric the packed size is 21"x7" according to the specs. I didn't measure it but I would say that is very close. I mentioned a motorcycle campground to the wife once and she looked at me like my head was melting. :p

Seriously though if anyone is traveling through this way and needs a place to camp you are more than welcome to stay here. We can put your bike in my shop and keep it out of the weather, and I have tools and a bike jack if you need to change oil or do minor repairs. We might even talk the wife into fixing you breakfast. ;)

Steve, Thats what I like about real riders, they always seem willing to lend a hand or help in any way they can. Sorry the wife didnt seem to think the motorcycle campground was a good idea, but I understand,,

If I ever get down near your area I will stop by and brew up some coffee and sit a spell..

Sound good Eric, if you are too tired to pitch a tent we always have a spare bedroom with a screaming hot shower. We can drink coffee on the screened porch and watch the deer play in the yard.

Luckily we have no bears, we also have Wild Turkey (in the bottle also), Coyotes, Cougars (not the old chicks :p), Bobcats, Raccoons, Skunks, and the occasional Rattle Snake. Nothing like living out in the country. :)

I was watching a Science channel show about a lab that milks the venom from snakes and they were showing that the eastern rattle snake is much larger than the western rattlesnake. That eastern rattle snake was huge, they needed three people to pick it up for milking!

The ones I have seen around here aren't that big, they are about six feet long. Luckily I have only seen two or three since I have lived here. We are blessed with Chicken snakes and small Garter snakes.

No copperheads down there? That's the usual "Bad" ones we have in Missouri. Any kind of rattler is rare here. The only one of those I have ever seen was when riding back to the camp from the shower in a campground in Texas, wish I had my camera with me that time. I couldn't tell how long he was, but he looked as big as my arm, in the bike's headlight beam, crossing the road.
I made sure to watch my step back at the tent, and made sure it was zipped up tight after I was inside!

Yes we have Copperheads as well, one of my friends daughters was bitten by one in his driveway when she was getting out of her car about a month ago. It was a cool evening and I guess the snake had been sunning on the warm driveway and she didn't notice it when she pulled up. I haven't seen one on my place yet. I don't know if there is any truth to it, but I was told the Dept of Wildlife had released a lot of Rattlesnakes in our area to try to control the Wild Turkey population years ago. Seems to me they should have just extended the hunting season a couple of weeks, or upped the bag limit. But what do I know.

Waaaaay back in 1971, a group of us rode from Chicago down to Missouri and camped out in a state park that had trout fishing as it's attraction. I don't have any memory of the park name or location, but while down there, one of the guy's came across a small rattlesnake in some tall grass next to a lake. Well, the locals told us it was a Massasauga rattlesnake. I had no desire to meet anymore of it's buddies, so we vacated that area post haste!

Might have been at Bennet Spring State Park, that's about an hour away from me. There's one other park/trout stream, I think, but I forget the name of it.

Sounds more like a good way to control the wild turkey HUNTER population....

You got that right, the only thing is they didn't tell anyone they were releasing them. If the rumor is true that is. Could be local urban legend.
