I got back yesterday from a 10-day trip around New Mexico and Colorado while going to WeSTOC (Western ST Owners Club event)
I didn't ride nearly as much as I should have but it ended up being a good thing as my rear tire
had just enough tread to get me home.
Here are some pics:

Thanks for the pictures Joe. And how many miles did you get on that rear tire?
7,000 before it hit one wear bar.
7,500 on it now and all the center wear bars are showing.
I may try the road smarts.

There were some DS routes on the event list but I was told they were pretty easy and not much more than typical fire roads.

Great shots Joe!
It was good to see ya in Taos.
I mounted up a set of Road Smarts just before this run. 2k riding 2up & way over loaded. Front shows NO signs of wear & the rear has squared off just a tad, but does not show much for wear.

Awesome pics Joe. Now I have to go to the library where I can see them clearly on DSL!

What are Road Smarts?
I leave for my West Coast trip on Friday and have 4k on my rear Avon Storm. I figure on replacing both in N.California.

Dunlop Road Smarts - a new dual compound tire that is supposed to have a thicker center but softer sides - the way I understand it. My tires never hit the wear bars on the side unfortunately... always on the center. So, I may give them a try.

Yup, what Joe said. High mileage compound center with sticky rubber sides for the corners. Since I live well over 100 miles from the first corner, I too tend to hit the wear bars in the center first. I have high hopes for these tires. The ride great, sure hope to get some mileage out of them.

Welcome back Mellow. I'm a couple of weeks behind as I'm now in Denver and will be spending the next few weeks riding the western states. Thanks for the pics.

I loved the pictures! WestSToc looked like a great time. I'm looking forward to getting back out there soon. My riding in the west trip was cut short in Utah this year but I always can plan the next ride. I will be going to to check on the old homeSTead in Dell City, West Texas in the spring/summer of 2009. I missed getting out there this year. Dell City is a great town that once was and town pride is bringing it back. Looking forward to NNESTOC in September while work keeps me in NH for 4 more years.
