I always liked to be able to "cook" with minimal cleanup. Freezerbag cooking is one way to accomplish that. I have tried it quite a bit and it does work. One thing you need is a freezerbag cozy. I carry an extra knit cap for this. Put the food into the freezerbag, put the freezerbag into the hat and then add the water. Seal the bag and make sure the hat encloses the bag. Wait a few minutes and eat. When done, toss the whole shebang into the trash. Save the hat...
Here is a website that is a great reference for this type of camp cooking.

Thanks, I'm heading off for a week-long trip today but this is good stuff... I'll look closer when I get back. I've packed 2 meals (dinty more stew/ramen noodles) that I'll used on my 1st day (tonight) and my last day. The rest of the time I just find something on the road.

Enjoy your trip. The good thing about this method is you can test different things at home to see what works for you and still be able to eat the results. Another side benefit to this is that since you are only heating a small amount of water, you don't need a big fancy stove. You can get by with one of these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PN865oRI7-Q More info on alchohol stoves: http://zenstoves.net/Stoves.htm

These are a great way to eat while doing minimalist camping. Pro is they are cheaper than the freeze dried meals you can buy, con is they require some pre-trip prep time.
