This is my first post here, been reading the previous posts. Lots of good information here. We have an '06 GW and recently pulled an HF/Sears Cargo trailer from our home in Mobile, AL to NM, UT and CO. We spent 11 days on the road and managed to rack up 4350 miles. We did not camp but stayed in motels. When we arrived back home I started to do some research on tent campers and decided that I would like to have an Aspen Classic.

As it turns out, I was able to find a used one for sale nearby and will be riding up there tomorrow to check it out. It is an '04 and has a complete new tent that was installed 2 months ago. It has car tires on it and not the 4" tires. He also has mounted the spare on the rear of the trailer. It has the front cooler mount as well.

If there is anyone here that is familiar with these trailers and has any advice on things to look for when I inspect this camper, I'd sure like to hear it all.

FYI, if anyone is looking for a Kwip Kamp in good condition, I know where one is in MS.

If we decide to get the Aspen, the cargo trailer will be for sale. Here's some pictures. The inside has been carpeted as well.

Thanks,
John

Might happen that way but at that price it will sell quickly.

I still have some plans for the cargo trailer. One issue with those Sear X20 cartop carriers is they open from the back and there is only a small opening there where you have to try and load stuff. I don't know how anyone manages to load one up on top of a cage. So, what I want to do is to remove the front hinges and add a full length piano hinge on the left side and relocate the struts to the front and back. That allows the top to open a bit more and also gives full access to the interior space. I'd also like to extend the tongue so I can get a small cooler rack on there in front of the carrier. On our recent trip we had the cooler inside the carrier. This worked fine for this trip, but if I start to tent camp then I will need that space for other gear.

As I figured, the camper was gone early this morning. At that price they would have been nuts to not take it. Oh well. I will look for a 2-3 man 3 season tent and go that route. I have all the other gear from my backpacking days...
