Hey Guys!

I heard about this on TWT, it sounds like fun and it is in my backyard. So I thought I would share this here and if several of you want to come down for it, I will find us a good campground to stay in and kind of organize/host this event.

Check this out http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75471 and if you are interested post up and let me know. If just a couple of you want to come, you can stay at my home, about 20 miles from the event. Or, some of the best camping in the state is closer to the event, along the lower Guadalupe river. It can get crazy down there in the summer, but before Memorial day, it should not be too crazy.

I finally got a chance to talk to my friend last night. He owns a 4,000 acre ranch on the lower Guadalupe river outside of New Braunfels. He said we could camp on his place for the AF1 Grand Opening weekend. I was concerned that some people might not want to ride their street bikes over his cattle guards and on his ranch roads, so I asked about a small place he has just downstream from his ranch. We can ride in on concrete, no worries. The location offers free riverside camping with electricity. I have a filter and we can pump river water through that for drinking water, bathe in the river and poop in the woods. This is probably a 20 min ride from the AF1 grand opening. Hope some of y'all can make it.

I went for a ride yesterday, beautiful day, and ended up on river road. I stopped to check out the place we are going to be camping. All I had done before, was see the gate and peek over the fence as I rode by. I hiked the place yesterday. We will be camping on over 100 acres with at least 1/2 mile of river frontage. There is a sheer cliff on the other side of the river, so total privacy. If River Road was not at the top of the hill you would think you were in the middle of nowhere. We have paved parking for 50+ bikes, a concrete slab, electricity and one picnic table. Even if you do not want to attend the AF1 grand opening this is a great opportunity for camping and riding. Come on out!

Campsite Directions! If anyone from this forum wants to join us you are welcome. Looks like we have about five people planning to camp here for this event.

Remember this is primitive camping. We have electricity and one picnic table. This is haul in your water and poop in the woods primitive, but it is beautiful and free.

Our campsite is on River Road just upstream from third crossing, between River Road and the River. River Road runs along the Guadalupe River, up through the canyon created by the river. The road crosses the river four times between New Braunfels on the downstream end and Sattler on the upstream end. The crossing closest to New Braunfels is First Crossing and as you go up stream the next crossing is Second Crossing and we are just above Third Crossing and on the left if you are riding upstream. The crossings have street signs on them telling which crossing you are on, so if you lose count you are still OK.

If you are coming from the North, going South on I-35, exit Hwy 306 and go West, or right. It is probably 10-15 miles before you cross the Guadalupe River, start looking for FM 2679 and turn left which will take you to Sattler in 2-3 miles. In Sattler turn left onto River Road After you cross the river, over Fourth Crossing, start looking on your right for a big black gate with a rocking I brand on it and stone work around it. Keep going, when you find the second gate on your right with the rocking I you have found our campsite. If you cross the river again, over Third Crossing, you missed it. Turn around and go upstream, It is the first gate on the left after you cross Third Crossing going upstream. The combination to the gate is 1225, or the date of Christmas.

If you are coming from the South, going North on I-35, exit Hwy 46 and go West or left on 46. When you get to River Road turn right and follow River Road. After you cross the river the third time, over Third Crossing, look for the first gate on the left. It will be black with a rocking I brand on it. The combination to the gate is 1225, or the date of Christmas.

If you are coming from AF1. Turn left, leaving the front of AF1 and go SW on San Antonio St. Turn Right on Walnut St, it is just a few blocks. Walnut St will turn into Hwy 46 W. Turn Right on Hueco Springs Rd. Turn left on River Road and after you cross the river the third time, over Third Crossing, look for the first gate on the left. It will be black with a rocking I brand on it. The combination to the gate is 1225, or the date of Christmas.

I look forward to meeting y'all. Camp anywhere you like.

This was a cool event. Free BBQ and beer Friday night. Great Hill Country ride on Sat. My group did almost 400 miles, mostly twisties. We Rode to Leakey and did the 33X's, then came back a different way. I am still tired from that ride. Sunday lunch was catered eyetalian food and we all watched the Chinese Moto GP on a big screen TV. Myself and two others camped out down by the river. They are planning to do it again next year. Probably a third of the people who showed up did not ride Aprillas.

Glad you had a good time... If this wasn't so close to the CampSTOC event I organized, I would have gone.. .Heck, if it wasn't for work, I would have gone anyway.

Post it again next year and I'm sure this site will be a little bigger and more may chime in and attend. The 3 sisters can be a good workout.:D

Dang, I can't believe I missed this one. My tire was shredded and I was waiting on the new one. I'm south of Houston and would certainly have loved to ride there.

Maybe next year (or autumn!)

Both the campsite and the riding sound idyllic. It's far enough from California that it's going to have to be part of bigger plans but, if you keep doing it, I will eventually make it!

I wanted to go so bad but had to work. If you do it again let me know. I love that area did you go swimming?
