May 2008 from Rochester NY to Meadows of Dan, Virginia for CampSTOC '08. Mostly Honda ST's, but plenty of other bikes were represented.
Left the north coast 5/14/08 early in the day and met up with my Wing buddy, Paul. Rode south to get to US15 in PA. This road is slowly undergoing a transformation into a new interstate (I-99) and some sections are divided 4 lane. Our goal the first day was to meet up with a couple other bikes just south of Harrisburg PA, then ride to Fredericksburg MD to meet another couple for a late lunch. At a DQ we hooked up with Todd from CT, and Rob & Murial from Middletown NY. An hour later we met Gene & Lisa at a Cracker Barrel to break bread.

Our first night we stayed at the Shenandoah River Outfitters Camp Outback near Luray VA. The next day we rode the Blue Ridge Parkway south to Willville Motorcycle Campground in Meadows of Dan VA.

While in VA, we rode back north to Stauton VA to meet another STOC group & ate pie, and rode down into N Carolina to check out some back roads. One particular back road we were passed by two highly motivated sport bikes... like we were standing still! Awesome. Some of the riding around was on I-81 just for making time (to Staunton, and then to get home), and some was the Parkway and some narrow back roads. South of Roanoke my Wing buddy told us his gas light came on.... 50 miles from Willville! Punched in GAS on my iWay GPS and we took a very narrow & twisty road down the mountain to gas up in Ferrum VA on VA-40. Great roads! Rt 40 to Woolvine led us to VA-8 back to the BRP. Not a straight piece of pavement to be found!
I did have my normally trusty old Coleman 400A white gas stove with me.... and it decided to crap out the first morning. THAT gave me the opportunity to use a Jetboil stove, which I fell in love with. (bought one!)
I pulled into my driveway Sunday evening after riding through rain from MD up. Had put a total of almost 1900 miles under my butt, and felt good about not having taken everything I did last year. I had made a very serious effort to leave behind stuff I "may not need".
Met up with some old friends, made new ones, put faces to online names & persona's... told lies around the campfires, suffered only one night of hard rain..... most enjoyable.
One observation I have about rider events.... I have yet to meet any jerks or a-holes. LD Riders are a different breed, and campers are almost always cool people to meet.
