Just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself.
I'm new to motorcycling and camping. I never owned a motorcycle until I bought a new ST1300 in July of 2004. I'd gotten my license over 30 years ago on my brother's Yamaha 175 but never had the urge to get into motorcycles until all the guys at work with their Harleys were always talking about all the fun they were having. I wanted to have fun too.
When I was a kid my family would camp while on vacation. It was cheaper than motel rooms for 6. I can't say I really saw the fun in it. My wife is a motel kinda girl and I like motels just fine too.
My Honda service manager asked me to go with him and his wife to a BMW rally in the Wisconsin Dells last summer. I bought a tent, a sleeping bag, a Thermarest, a roll top waterproof bag for my clothes, and some straps to secure it all to the bike. Boy, this camping is expensive! Oh well. I didn't plan to camp only once. The camping was fun!!
I'm planning to go to Greers Ferry, Arkansas in May for my first extended camping trip. I've been looking at routes in Missouri, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan for some shorter camping trips this summer and early fall.
I only get 6 weeks of vacation a year and my wife has already spoken for 3 of them. Plane trips to Florida in February, Masachusetts in July, and Texas in September. Too bad I need to work for money.
I appreciate everbody's input in this site and will attempt to participate as I get more experienced. Thanks. I hope to meet some of you in the future. :) :) :) :D

Hey Terry,

Man, I'd kill for all that time off!!!! I'd have worn out my '01 instead of trading it for the '06... DARN!!!! :( :(

Motorcycles and camping are two of my very favorite things (won't mention the others).. Hopefully we can do both together one day... There's some might fine places to pitch a tent down here in Texas!!! :D :D :D

Thanks to you all for the warm welcome.

Joe, I'm looking forward to meeting you in Arkansas in May.

Danny, I'm wrestling with the thought of going to the superbike races at Road America in June. A couple weeks before that I'll have taken a bit of time off work to camp in Arkansas and I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Those racers are gutsy and talented. It's a great time. Maybe I'll ride up on Friday and return to Iowa Monday. I missed you last year.

Rick, We're staying at the Mustang Island Beach Club. That's by San Padre Island. I won't be camping. Only the best for my wife!!! We'll surely get together some other time.

I just started getting 3 weeks last year.. I thought that extra week was great but sure doesn't take long, planning out the year, before it's all gone.

Another new member here!
I love that this site has been created. Thanks Guys.

I only get two weeks off a year right now, and one week is always spent "car" camping with my SO. She doesn't care to ride so my motocamping is usually solo or with buddies. This summer the wife & I are taking a full two weeks on a big car adventure from upstate NY to visit friends in Pittsbugh, Asheville & Scranton (in that order). We will be camping in W. Virginia & Virginia between staying at the friends casa's. While in N.Carolina I plan to rent a bike for a day. I just can't miss the opportunity to ride in the Smokey Mnt's. So.... for the rest of '06 I will be getting in weekend campouts.... and that's GOOD!

Dave, the great thing about the eastern section of the US is how close everything is. Being in Texas we can ride all day and never see the stateline. So, you can do a lot of damage on just weekend trips.

It will be great to see the reports/reviews coming in from your guys up north. I've yet to make it east or north of th smokies and would like to see some options.

Again, welcome to the site.

Dave
I'll be cutting across NY on the way to Boston this May. I know your way north of 95 but I might swing up to a get a few Pictures of Niagara Falls.

I usually do one east coast ride a year and try to stay of the highway if I have the time.

Joe I don't have fresh PICs/campground upgrades from the campgrounds here in the Mid Atlantic, so I haven't posted any reviews as I did not want to mislead anyone. When season opens back up I will post some decent up to date info.
