As you can see I need to get some luggage, maybe a set of Pelicans for the sides and Happy-Trail aluminum top box.

Looks great make sure you get a skid plate.

Thanks guys, so far I really like it, it's a lot more comfortable than I thought it would be.
Rick, you're right, the skidplate will probably be the first thing I buy or fab for it. I plan on hitting all the gravel roads around here to brush up on my dirt skills before I go. You wouldn't think a bike that is supposed to be an "Adventure Touring" style bike would have the oil cooler and filter hanging out there to be whacked by a rock. Touratech makes an oil cooler relocation kit but, it's probably $$$$$$$$.

I'm very interested in how your Happy-Trail set up works for you on your trip. I really like their rack because the bags are evenly spaced apart. It looks heavy-duty also. I know for sure I want their aluminum top box.

I've already got a 2200 mile camping trip with them and they work good. No leaks, easy in and out. I just have to get used to putting things I need most at the top of the bag. I don't know if you want to get the big honkin' 10 1/2" ones or not, but they hold a lot of gear. I wished I would have gotten the bigger top box. I wouldn't need to use that Moto Fizz bag if I bought the bigger box. Good luck with your farkles.

UHOH!
Ziggy's gone and got a serious V-Twin.
Looks like some Adventure camping for real is on the way.
Nice bike buddy, you're gonna love what it can do when you're putting some long rides together.

Thanks Gordon, I'm still kicking myself for not taking it to Deal's Gap yesterday and the day before. I did get to scrape off the bottom of the floorboards and scuff off the "Chicken Strips" on the tires of the Road King though.

mac, I got to see a 650 just like mine at the Deal's Gap Resort Monday evening that had the Happy-Trail rack and the top box like yours. The rack and box looked very well made, I was hoping the owner would walk up but the guys I was with were ready to go just after I spotted it. I think I will need the larger version of the one you have. I'm hoping it will fit a full face helmet. It says it's 12" tall and I think my helmet will fit in there. I will probably need the 10 1/2" ones to hold all my junk. I'm glad to hear you like them and they are holding up well.

This is an old thread, but did you ever get it off road battle ready? On a road trip out west, I accidentally hooked up with a guy who, on a slightly modified VStrom 650, rode the wheels off off the 1200GS crowd. Some adventure riding invitation only kind of thing on all the nasty CO mountain passes. But he had an advantage...all those rides were in his back yard, so to speak.

Kevin,
I'm still in the progress of getting it ready. I'm down to the skid plate, I can't decide if I want to just buy one of the Amotostuff plates or try to build one myself. My Ammo cans and rack worked out great this weekend on a rally I went to in IL. Other than a fresh set of Tourances right before I leave and a set of TKC's to take with me, I think I have everything covered. Well, maybe I will add headlight protection of some type. I need help, I can't quit with the farkle list! :p

OK, I'm confused. You bought the bike on a cloudy day or you took the pics on a cloudy day?
Either way, nice bike!

I dug around and found the guys business card. Check out www.verlenelson.com and www.billyaller.twmblr.com. He TOTALLY farkled it for hard core adventure riding, but bear in mind that Billy is minimalist abd doesn't suffer from farkle fever (I'm guilty as the day is long...Hi...my name is Kevin and I'm a fark-a-holic)

Nice looking bike - almost bought one instead of my ST a couple of years ago. I will still probably end up with a dual-purpose at some point.
Good choice and I like the color.

Thanks G-Man, reading your signature takes me back to my good old days. I had a Honda CB360T, and an SL350, I wish I still had them. Do you have any pictures of those Hondas you could post up?
