I've been thinking about riding to Mexico this fall. Has anyone made a Mexico run and if so is there camping down there.

Looking at most of the houses I'd rather be outside anyway.47

I have a Trailer Life Campground Guide and there are some campgrounds liisted in Mexico, but they are all near the US border and Baja. To enter Mexico you also should check the insurance business. Most companies that insure us in the US and Canada don't cover us in Mexico and you have to get additional insurance at the border.

There was a company taking M/C's from Florida to Cancun, Mexico on a ferry a couple of years ago, and I checked into it after I found out the ferry was just $250 room and board for the crossing. On the first call I was informed that my INS. would not work in Mexico, The first quote was $250 for 1 month (I was told this was a minamum time frame), 2nd quote was $265 I did not have the budget for both charges and living/fuel for the remaining trip and dropped the idea. The company couldn't break even and went back north, That was a shame as it would have caught on. If/When I get the funds for the trip I would love to take the trip. Rick not trying to discourage you just voicing a failed idea I wish had not failed. I envy you Hope your trip goes well and wish I could join you.

Mexico is camping, but now a days I would stay in a guarded camp area or with other campers, never alone, there is a lot of poverty and drugs so you have to be aware, it's still safer than the downtown areas of our major citys.

Rick

There is a guy on Two Wheeled Texans that does a lot of riding, and I am pretty sure he camps, down in Mexico. He has his own blog about his travels. I think his name is Skip. But if you go to TWT and do some searches for Mexico, I am sure he will pop up.

Good Luck,
Rod

I've done some riding in Mexico, mostly solo but occasionally with friends.

The closest I've come to camping was staying in an "abandoned" motel near Yeccora,Sonora one evening(with the owner's permission). I woke up about 2 or 3 a.m. to find a group of cows grazing around my bike. It was pretty cool.

Anyways, there are a small number of R.V. parks in some of the more touristy areas that will allow you to pitch a tent, but they are few and far between, so it would be hard to camp every night.

On the other hand cheap motels ($5 - $15 per night) can be found that can provide unique experiences similar to camping.:p
