The weather was great today, all day I watched people ride by and I thought "I hate you for riding while I work". So finally I had enough and left work, went home and got the bike out. Not to make you guys up north jealous but I wore my mesh gear for this ride this afternoon. I left the house headed east on US62 into the small town of Meeker Ok to SH18 and headed north to Chanlder, county seat of Lincoln Co. Here I turned east on SH66, which used to be US66 or Route 66, The Mother Road. Oklahoma has more miles of the original Route 66 than any other state along the route. When I came to the little town of Davenport I stopped to take a picture of a mural on one of the buildings. Many small towns in Oklahoma have a painting on at least one of their buildings. From here I left SH66 and headed north via Co. road to the small town of Kendrick. In Kendrick is the B&B Store, a small Mom & Pop store that Ride Oklahoma magazine did a story on last summer and has started to draw motorcyclist since then, especially dual-sporters since the town is in the middle of nowhere. From Kendrick I rode east to SH99 and headed south into the town of Stroud. Stroud is also on 66 and here you will find the Rock Cafe. While researching for the Disney movie "CARS", the producers drove Route 66 and stopped at the Rock Cafe and liked it enough that they used it as inspiration for part of the town in the movie. From Stroud I continued south on SH99 to the town of Prague, A nice little town and where my kids go to school. Turning west on US62 I headed back home. Not much of a big trip, but a nice way to end a work day.
Thanks, Guy

I rode to work and took the long way home on the klr today. It was definitely a great day to ride. I detoured to the trails and practiced sidespins. I'm working on learning how to take off spinning sideways and kicking up dirt and gravel like there's no tomorrow.

I tried to do that spinning sideways and kicking up dirt thing, but more times than not I ended up picking myself up then the bike, so I gave up and just work on going straight.

Hah! I pretty much do the same thing, but as long as I'm out there where nobody can see me crash, it don't count and it never happened. I'm getting better at it, I'm getting to where I can wind out 1st gear all kind of sideways, but not consistently. Once I can do that and follow it up with a wheelie, I'll be content.

Hi Rick,
I thought the same thing when I read your Big Bend report. Don't worry, it'll get better.
Hi Jetfixer,
I saw nothing, NOTHING. (think SGT. Shualtz from Hogen's Heros)

Just an update here,
Bad news, the Rock Cafe in Stroud, Ok. burnt down last night. This old cafe was built in 1937 and was an icon in this small Ok. town. So if you were going to stop here on your ride down old Route 66, it's another lost artifact of the Mother Road. Like many before it never to be seen again.
