Hi All,

Things sure are quite around here, so I'm assuming your all busy planning for a trip. Tell us what you've got up your sleeves. What's your big plan for your first trip of the season. Or what is your fantasy trip you might not get to take for a while. It might give the rest of us some ideas. My next trip will probable stay in Ok. Some times I like to just leave the driveway, and when I come to an intersection, if the odometers on an odd number, I turn left, if even I turn right. Usually makes for an interesting ride.

Thanks, Guy

I've been pretty busy with work and family stuff. Planning a small trip in May to CampSTOC and a bigger one in June with Trailace. That's it for this year. Any other plans will end up being the spur of the moment type trips.

My life continues to be dominated by school, work, bike farkling projects & chores. Winter has decided to remain in full force here on the north coast, which means no riding & no setting up new gear & no opportunity to show my bike off in the Packed Gallery.

Trips this year:
A RTE to Pittsburgh in late April.... hopefully.
One or two knock-the-rust-off motocamping rides in April to the Finger Lakes region of NY. This will be an opportunity to check out new gear and some different packing methods.
CampSTOC in mid-May to Willville Motorcycle Campground with the ST-Owners. A good friend that rides a '85 Wing will be riding along with me. I will be introducing him to the Skyline & Blue Ridge Parkway & SW VA.
One or two September weekends in Vermont, Conn, & N. Hampshire if I can.

I'm planning a trip for the last of May, beginning of June to Truckee, Ca. This will be my first motorcycle camping trip. I've been riding for 45+ years but never camped. The overnighter we had on Feburary 2nd was of real value to me. One of my concerns now is that I may over plan. Normally I average 500-600 miles per day, but that is while staying in motels. This trip I'm aiming for 350-400 per day. I want to stop early to setup and not be in a rush in the morning. My cooking will be limited to coffee and canned soup.

First day is Carrollton to Palo Duro S.P. at Amarillo. 2nd night at Heron Lake S.P. near Chama. 3rd night near Moab, Ut and the 4th at Graet Basin N.P. near Ely, Nv. Two days at Truckee, on family business. My return will either be down through Phoenix or up through Wyoming.

This is an experiment for me so I'm leaving open the option to stay in motels if my old bones can't keep up with my planning.

I'm planning a trip to California for late June/early July. One of my riding buddies has comitted and another is thinking about tagging along. I don't have all my routes and destinations yet. But I think I will head to Northern Arkansas for the 1st night because of heat at that time of year.

I'm planning to head to Deal's Gap as soon as the weather breaks. I would like to take a few weekend trips to Eastern KY this year. Cave In Rock, IL in June, a couple of trips to Atlanta, and Daytona in October.

I am in the planning stages for a trip to Alaska in July of 2009. After I make that trip I would like to head south through Mexico down to Central America. Maybe I'll do that on my 50th birthday.:)

There are so many good rides going on there is no way I can make them all but is fun just thinking about them. I hope to ride doun to Mexico in April if I can get all my paper work and bike stuff in order.

Than in June a ride with Mellow and you never know where that could take us. Then in August I might take on the central part of the TAT.

Work requirements and the fact that my little wife doesn't ride limits my time away. I'd love to make about 10 trips this year. Unfortunately, reality will only allow 2 good camping trips.

I am planning for CampSTOC in May and NatSTOC in September. Hopefully there will be a couple of 3 day weekend trips fitted in there somewhere.

Hi Trailace,

If you do the TAT though Oklahoma, I'd like to tag along for that if you don't mind.

Thanks, Guy

Once you get comfortable with setting up camp... don't be surprised if you average more miles..

If you get there too early, you're sitting around doing nothing... Be sure to bring a book along to pass some of the time. In a motel, you usually have the TV to help you kill time, so much so you don't realize how much you kill. At a campground, you sit there in nature with just the birds and it's peaceful.. but sometimes gets boring..

Depending on the sunset times, I'll plan on stopping about 2 hrs before sunset.. that way I set up in the light and will bring some food with me from the nearest town. Then, a quick fire and off to bed.

First extended trip will be Memorial week, Cass BMW rally, then I really don't know where to for the rest of the week. Was going to test ride a new F800GS at bobsbmw, but they are keeping it under tabs till fall (so I hear). Guess any where the wind blows from Monday till Saturday, then back home and get ready for work again Monday.

I Just got back from Meridian st park. It was a little cold (really cold!) fri night but the rest of the weekend was fine. Nice park, very remote and isolated. The last week in Apr, I'll be at Davis Mtn state park and big bend. May 2-4 in oxford campground (Llano, Tx) www.hawgsnhills.com. That's it for the firm schedule, but I will be camping in Eurka Springs & hot springs AR, Lucknbach Tx, Natchez Trace Pkwy Ms & Tn, and several weekend trips around the area before the year is up.

Hi Jetfixer,

I love riding the Eureka Springs area. I usually ride all day and roll into Eureka at the end of the day. But lately I've been thinking I ought to ride striaght to Eureka, set up camp, and then take day rides around there with a nearly empty bike. The back roads (gravel) are just as good as the highways.

I'm with you, Guy. My trips to ES have been on the vulcan. I'm itching to go on the klr and hit all those dirt roads I couldn't do before and camp in the isolated areas.

Kettle Campground is a nice place to camp. It's not as quiet as the more remote campgrounds but you are in ES so you are very close to food.

Okay, that didn't quite come out the way I'd expected.

Hi Joe,

Yea, Kettle Campground was what I was thinking. It should take about 4 hours to get there from my house. Then set up camp, unload the bike, then spend 2 or 3 days riding around with a lite bike. Sounds like a plan, when's everybody getting there. Ha Ha.

Would be fun though, Guy

I like the kettle for camping with the street bike, but I'd think it' would be more fun to camp at one of the remote parks atop a mountain along the pig trail with the dual sport. Actually, I'd like to make my first dual sport trip between Mena and Hot Springs in the Quachita forest. There's trails in that area.

Sounds like fun... if it weren't for this paycheck thing... I'd be there... actually, it's not the paycheck as much as it is what I have to do to get it.

Have a safe trip.

MI to Savannah GA via the skyline and blue ridge parkway in June. On the return route, finish riding Blue ridge, ride Cherhola parkway, and do the tail fo the dragon again. June, go to the great lakes harley round up. July, a few possible trips to OH for meetups with other folks from other riding websites. Labor day weekend, ride to the Upper Penninsuila of MI, go to the Marquette Blues Festival and get wasted with my little bro (who lives in Marquette). Also thinking of going to Sturgis this year. Is riding a bike fun or what?
