Good Morning Campers!

Just found this site a couple of days ago, looks like it has some good elements. I'm new to the motocamping thing, but I've been riding for 20+ years (on and off road), and camping with the family (w/popups or motorhomes). I have always wanted to do the minimalist camping thing, so I'm going to try motocamping now that the kids are older and I have some free time.

So....here's what I have so far: Hennessy hammock, Jetboil w/coffee press, Eureka Silver City mummy bag, plus all the usual stuff you would carry for moto-motelling. I'm planning on being a fair weather camper at this point, but I hope this would be enough to let me see how I like it, and maybe upgrade to colder weather stuff later.

Am I missing anything major? Is this a decent enough set up for what I have planned?

Welcome to the site.

I'm more of a tent camper than a hammock camper, never tried one. There are some here that have and like them. I think for fair weather you should be okay.

Hi Maxwedge,

Sounds like a good setup, the only thing I would add is a tarp to string up over your hammock if it rains. Even if your a fair weather camper sometimes the clouds roll in after you set up camp. I have this one and really like it.

Welcome to the site, I've been here a little over a month and everyone makes me feel at home here, and a wealth of information.

Welcome. I could never sleep in a hammock cause I can't sleep on my back or stomach. I second some kind of shelter to hang over the hammock though.

Welcome to the forum! I think those http://www.hennessyhammock.com/ (http://www.hennessyhammock.com/)
are cool. That's about as minimilist as you can get outside of just sleeping under the stars. What some riders have observed in other posts regarding hammocks is some places have a lack of tie-able locations for the two ends. I'm sure you've considered this though.

What do you ride??? We want a chance to e-drool on your bike! :D

I ride an FZ6 on the road, and a KLX300 (now street legal) off road.

Welcome! Sounds like you have everything covered. Lots of good folks here that have been very helpful answering all my questions. Check out some of their setups, you will be amazed at how much they can stuff into a compact package.
