For anyone coming to or traveling though Oklahoma these are my top 5 picks.
1: Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge-Lawton
http://www.fws.gov/southwest/refuges/oklahoma/wichitamountains/
A very interesting part of Oklahoma, probable not what most people think would be part of this state. Offers a nice campground and a top notch visitors center. All paved roads in the camp, but it is open range, so buffalo and other wildlife are known to wander through camp.
2: National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum-OKC
http://www.nationalcowboymuseum.org/
If you like cowboys and western art this is your place. The best time to visit is Memorial Day weekend when they have their "Chuck-wagon Gathering". Several working ranches from Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, and other states send their chuck-wagons and cooks to the museum for cooking demonstrations and the best part is you get to eat what is cooked. Plus free admission to the museum and other exhibits.
3: Woolaroc Museum-Bartisville(north of Tulsa)
http://www.woolaroc.org/
Another fine museum of western art. Woolaroc has special meaning for me because this was once the ranch of Frank Philips, founder of Philips Petroleum, and my grandfather worked there for a few years right after he and my grandmother were married. Most of the old ranch buildings are still in place and some old oil field displays.
4: Science Museum Oklahoma-OKC
http://www.omniplex.org/
Although this mainly a children's science museum, they also have a very nice air and space museum as well as the International Photography Museum in the same building.
5: The Chisolm Trail Heritage Museum-Duncan
http://www.onthechisholmtrail.com/
If you have any interest in the cattle trail days this is a nice museum to visit. They deal mostly with the cattle drives from Texas through Indian Territory to the rail heads in Kansas. There is a nifty theater hear and a short film you should see if your in the area.
