View Full Version : A Large Thank You

I would like to give a large 'THANK YOU' to all the people at the 2/2/08 overnight stay at Lake Tawakoni last week. I had a great time and learned a lot.
I'm really impressed with the level of cammaderie expressed on this site. I had stopped viewing several sites due to the harshness of response postings to the most benign statements. I think MotoCampers is an example of how people with like interests should relate to each other.
Thanks again.

Fred, glad you had a good time. When Rick (Trailace) and I started this site it was to provide
information to help people.
You will never find any unfriendly words here, they will be deleted along with those that make them, life is too short.

Fred, you are SO right! The level of care Joe & Rick apply here is matched only by Joe's other site (ST-Owners). Nastiness need not be in our faces while online, and this site sure does prove it can be successful.
Which reminds me--- I need to update my donation to the site!

Fred,
You are so right, I have been on many Forums and left them as a result of how nasty and rude they were, I have even run my own Forum that I had to shut down as it was too time consuming to keep all the idiots out. This is a great place and glad you found it.

I have to agree, this is the best site I have been to in a long time. I'll be the first to admit, I am a little hard on fellow Harley riders who are a little too big for their britches with their arrogance. I should get myself in check a little better, but thats why most riders don't take Harley riders too seriously.
Joe and Rick, you have done a great job with this site. Noaa weather is my home page but MotoCampers is the first button on the toolbar. And the first one I go to every time I log on.
Thanks again,

We have lots of good arguments... I say Straps is the way to go but Sandman says it's bungee cords or nothing... Some like 2-man tents and some like 4-man tents...
Some guys here even pull trailers...
The biggest argument has to be between the self-inflatable mattress crew and the air mattress crew.... it's a controversial issue, and no winner has yet to be decided.

That's not an argument, it's merely contradiction (couldn't help myself... sorry to take this off topic)....

Well..... Sandman is so wrong it makes my head spin. And you guys with trailers should learn to leave all that gear at home or take the RV! ....... at least until I get one.... then those without a trailer are weirdos! LOL :D
I also appreciate the civility on this site, Joe and the admins keep control. I have twice given up on cycleworld.com because they allowed the threads to become flame wars.
I say thanks even though Joe yanked one of my threads years ago, I remember the thread was titled "Guns and Texas" and he thought that might stir people up a little too much.:D
It's also a bit scary that I can write "years ago" and be correct. My how time flies.

Wow, you have a great memory... I barely remember that one... Guns are a touchy subject, people start talking about their rights and other people from other states or countries ask why this why that... it's almost a political thread which I'll also kill. It just turns personal very fast and really, not necessary for what we do here. It's a thin line to draw in the sand and sometimes it moves a little but if you allow anything then it really gets out of control.

Guns, Politics (including laws mandating 'safety' gear any of it..seatbelts/airbags/DRL's/helmets etc) and religion are for 90% of the people in the world a holy war subject... there is no logic or fact that will move either side in the battle and at least in the case of religion it's not about facts at anyway. There is rarely even any point in trying to discuss these things, so it's best they be shot down right off.
Part of the problem is that it's easy for people to inject their particular slant on things during the normal course of a thread. And when that 'slant' is considered normal by the majority of people it goes by unnoticed, which just turns off people who do not agree. If we can all be mindful of that then perhaps everything will be smooth sailing and this can be a place where everyone is comfortable to chat about motorcycles and camping.

ROPE Joe, ROPE.
Bungee cords are just for holding the backpack on top of everything else.
The mattress winner will be decided by who gets the best night's sleep.
No resolution to this issue is forthcoming.

It's the only way to camp in any comfort and ride two-up (sometimes with a dog). Come over to the Dark Side! If you ever pull a Uni-go, you'd be a believer too. Allows you to carry enough for a base camp and still have fun getting there!

I was thinking a hard sided kennel strapped to the passenger seat, she's very small:

Check out my avatar. He's gotta drive! No container for him. He sit in a small bed with magnetic tape attached to the bottom that sits on the tank. Another reason for the trailer - I can't carry a tank bag! LOL
There were some pics taken at Lake Tawakoni. Maybe someone will post them.
